WonderKindy Avondale Heights is a 90 place culturally diverse centre with many bilingual staff. We aim for high quality care and as such have received a High Quality rating from the National Childcare Accreditation Council (NCAC).
We aim to provide a warm, caring and stimulating environment in which your child can be nurtured and can develop to their utmost potential through recognising that each child and you, their parents have individual care and settling in needs. We do this through the observation of the children’s development and the planning, implementation and evaluation of age and developmentally appropriate interest and play based programs. Staff at WonderKindy recognize and nurture the individuality and personal needs of each child- from following flexible routines to using open communication with parents to discover your child’s individual requirements to make the separation from parents as smooth and comfortable as possible for both the child and the parents (recognizing that parents too require time to adjust to leaving their children in the care of another person).
All our staff at WonderKindy have either a Certificate 3 in Children’s Services or Diploma of Children’s Services (or equivalent) and we have a Bachelor trained Kinder teacher running our 4 year old Government funded Kindergarten age group. Our staff also possess current Working with children Checks, First Aid and CPR qualifications, Anaphylaxis qualifications and Emergency Asthma Management qualifications.
The centre is registered with and regularly monitored by government bodies such as Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and Food Safety councils.
The centre provides age and developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor play spaces that are evaluated regularly to keep with current trends and regulatory requirements.
Centre Director Profile
Hi, my name is Fiona Parker and I am the Centre Director at Avondale Heights. I joined the team here in March 2010. I have been working in the childcare industry for 12 years. I started as an untrained volunteer, and held a position as an assistant in Heidelberg West for 2 years as I completed my Diploma, during which time I worked with all age groups including school age children. Upon completion of my Diploma I took an appointment as a Toddler Qualified room leader for 4 consecutive years. During this time I completed a Diploma of Business Management.
In 2005 I was offered and accepted a position as a Centre Director in a country border town. Returning to Melbourne after the birth of my first child. I took a position as a Director in Outer West Melbourne until the birth of my second child in 2009.
I strongly believe that all children have the right to have their basic needs and care requirements met, whilst also being given the opportunity to explore, develop and grow with in a safe, warm, caring, nurturing and stimulating environment. I believe that all children are individuals and should be treated as such. Children should also be treated with and shown respect, regardless of religious or cultural background. I believe that children bloom within a familiar environment that includes regular routines and appropriate social and behavioural expectations.
I strive to push myself and my staff to do better and to always have a smile and welcoming demeanour to all who access the centre.
